Walk 01
Wellington Parade to Walmer Castle
Head north along the seafront from Kingsdown towards Walmer. It is an easy coastal walk with the sea beside you for most of the way. Stop at Hut 55 for coffee, continue to Walmer Castle and either turn back or carry on towards Deal.
Walmer Castle is especially worth visiting for its gardens. It is generally open daily during the summer, but tickets and opening hours should be checked in advance. Booking online early can also reduce the admission price.
Walk 02
All the way into Deal
Continue beyond Walmer Castle along the promenade, passing Deal Castle and eventually reaching Deal Pier. Have breakfast or lunch at the Pier Kitchen, then explore the High Street before walking back or taking a taxi home.
This is mostly a straightforward seafront walk and can easily become a full day once coffee, shopping and lunch are involved.
Walk 03
Deal seafront and the old town
Start at Deal Pier, walk along the seafront and then wander through the Georgian streets around Middle Street and the High Street. Deal is compact and best explored slowly: independent shops, galleries, cafés and old houses rather than one large headline attraction.
On Saturdays, Deal Market runs at Union Road car park. Summer opening is currently listed as 8am to 2pm from April to October.
Walk 04
Kingsdown and the cliffs
For a more energetic walk, head south from Kingsdown towards St Margaret's and the White Cliffs. Expect hills, open coastal views and more uneven paths than the promenade walk. Check the route, weather and any coastal-path diversions before leaving.
South Foreland Lighthouse can be reached on foot from St Margaret's or from the Dover side of the cliffs. The lighthouse has tours and lawns with views across the Channel when conditions are clear.
Walk 05
Deal to Sandwich
A longer walk for keen walkers, following the King Charles III England Coast Path from Deal Pier towards Sandwich. It combines seafront, coastal landscape and the historic town of Sandwich at the end. Arrange a taxi or train back rather than treating it as a return walk.
