A compact Tudor coastal fortress close to the centre of Deal. It is especially good for families and anyone interested in local history, with atmospheric passages inside the castle. Check the English Heritage website for the day's opening hours.
A beautifully preserved medieval town with old streets, independent shops and walks beside the quay. It works well for a slower half-day trip or as the destination at the end of the Deal-to-Sandwich walk.
One of the best outings on a clear day. Walk part of the clifftop path, visit the lighthouse and stop for tea. There is no direct vehicle access to the lighthouse itself, so expect to approach it on foot.
A larger full-day historical attraction, with medieval buildings, wartime tunnels and extensive views. Summer can be busy, so pre-booking is sensible.
